Skyline Regional Park
Links to official sourceCity of Buckeye's ~8,700-acre mountain preserve in the southern White Tanks with hiking, biking, and equestrian trails. Free entry.
Skyline is free to get into, which makes it an easy pick for a quick hike when you don't want to pay the entry fee at White Tank. It's the City of Buckeye's mountain preserve in the southern White Tank Mountains. The city's About page puts it at about 8,700 acres, two miles north of the I-10 and Watson Road interchange at 2600 N. Watson Rd.
Per the city, park entry is free, and trails are open sunrise to sunset, with the gates closing at 10 p.m. Trails close at sunset, so time an evening walk to be back at the car before dark.
Who you'll see out there
Hikers, from short sunset walks to longer climbs. Mountain bikers and horseback riders too; the city's trails page lists trails for all three. Dogs are allowed on the trails but must be leashed. Campers and picnic groups use the reservable campsites and ramadas.
Grab a map first
The city posts a downloadable Trail Map and Guide and an Interactive Trail Map on its trails page. Trail names, distances and difficulty ratings are on the map. Use the city's version, not a screenshot from a stranger.
Camping and ramadas
The city's camping and ramadas page has the details.
- There are five ramadas, each with two picnic tables and a grill, and seven campsites lettered A through G. Site A is ADA-accessible.
- Each campsite has a long parking stall for an RV or vehicle, two graded tent pads, a picnic table, a grill and a fire ring.
- There are no water, electric or dump hookups, and no showers. Restrooms have sinks and toilets.
- You request a reservation online or by phone, and the city calls back to confirm and take payment. Allow up to 72 hours for a response.
Current rates for ramadas, campsites and permits are on that page; we don't repeat them here.
Before you go
Bring all your water. The city's camping page says no drinking water is available in the park, and in summer the city suggests about a liter per person for every hour you're out. That adds up fast, so pack more than you think.
Check the fire ban. The park's About page notes Maricopa County's annual fire ban runs from May 1 through September 30. Look up the county's current status before you light anything, even in a fire ring.
In the hot months, start early, wear a hat and sunscreen, and tell someone where you're going. Pack out whatever you pack in.
If something goes wrong
The city lists a park phone line, (623) 349-6350, staffed during posted business hours, plus a separate after-hours number for non-emergency incidents. Both are on the About page. For emergencies, call 911.
Skyline or White Tank?
White Tank Mountain Regional Park is a Maricopa County park with its own vehicle entry fee and rules. Skyline is city-run with free entry. Both are close to Verrado. The city's Skyline section also lists park programs and a newsletter sign-up if you want to hear about events. The neighborhood trails inside Verrado are a separate system; see our parks and trails page.
Keep these handy: Skyline Regional Park (city), the trails and maps page, camping and ramadas, our Verrado outdoors guide and the Parks page.
