in Verrado

If you only eat one thing downtown this week, make it the table-side chicken parm at Tempo, or a Diavola and the Super Tuscan Ciao Grazie pairs with it. Five places on one walkable street used to be the whole answer. Now there’s a second downtown block at Sunrise Market, the Fry’s centre up on Indian School, a Marketplace opening in phases out by I-10, and brisket mac and cheese at the golf club. Where to go still depends on the sun.

Main Street at Verrado

The original three-block strip at Main Street and Verrado Way. Get coffee at Anthem before it closes at 3, then come back for happy hour at Tempo. The official tenant map and store pages are at mainstreetatverrado.com.

Sunrise Market

Downtown's newer block, walkable and a short golf-cart hop from Main Street. If you love food, start here: breakfast at Haymaker, coffee at DeGiNO, a fritter at BoSa, sushi at W&Z, a glass at West Rose and gelato at Bobazona, all on one row of storefronts. Coming later this fall: Neighborhood Pie and Grill (burgers, pizza, hand-breaded tenders and wings) next to WIFFY'S. Soft openings and "coming soon" signs are normal here, so check the hub or the shop before you plan a meal around one.

    Haymaker

    Go for breakfast and order the Cowboy Platter: three eggs and a full order of meat. At lunch it's the hand-battered Southern Fried Chicken Sandwich on brioche, or the California burger with hickory bacon and avocado. Come back after dark for the bourbon bar, which has more than 50 to pick from. Opens at 7am every day and closes at 8 Sunday to Thursday, 9 on Friday and Saturday.

    DeGiNO Coffee Bar (DeGino)

    Coffee from a family that has grown it for three generations in Nayarit, Mexico, and the name comes from their three kids. Look at your cup: every one gets a handwritten saying. It opens at 5am daily and stays open until 10pm on weekends, so it works for a late coffee too. You'll see it spelled DeGiNO and DeGino; same shop.

    BoSa Donuts Coffee and Smoothies

    Get an apple fritter. Cinnamon rolls and éclairs are in the case too, along with smoothies and boba. Open 5am to 9pm every day, so it covers the early coffee run and the after-dinner sugar run.

    W&Z Asian Bistro

    A sushi bar plus Chinese and Thai dishes, and Japanese bento boxes. It's the sit-down pick downtown when it can't be tacos or pizza again. Open 11 to 9 Sunday to Thursday and until 9:30 on Friday and Saturday. We haven't found a house specialty to point you to yet, so tell us what you order.

    West Rose Tasting Room

    Twelve rotating wines, local beer on tap and live musicians. You can bring your own food, so pick up dinner on the block and carry it in. Open Wednesday to Sunday, noon to 7, which makes it an afternoon-into-early-evening stop.

The District, the Marketplace's new green with a splash pad and stage, opens first, starting Oct. 15 with SALT and Handel's. Shake Shack is expected mid to late October: news reports say Oct. 15, and the West Valley Regional Chamber lists its grand opening on Tue, Oct. 20. Sourdough & Co. is already serving clam chowder in sourdough bread bowls. Everything marked Coming shows no open or closed status until the place itself posts hours.

Golf club dining

For a sit-down meal without leaving Verrado, head to The Grille (Verrado Grille) in the Founders clubhouse and order the brisket mac and cheese. It's the signature, with smoked brisket, candied jalapeños and onion strings over a three-cheese fusilli. Hours are Sunday to Thursday 8am to 8pm and Friday and Saturday 8am to 9pm, and weekday happy hour runs 2 to 5. The club also lists the Cliff House up at the Victory course, plus banquet and event space if you're planning something bigger than a weeknight dinner. Check the club site for public versus member access; we don't guess at access rules.
