How city meetings work

If you want a say in what gets built near Verrado, the City of Buckeye's council and Planning and Zoning meetings are where it happens. Verrado doesn't have its own town government. Zoning, roads, city parks, utility rates, and the city budget are all decided by the City of Buckeye. The city clerk's page lists the regular schedule (City of Buckeye — meetings, agendas & minutes):

• City Council: 1st and 3rd Tuesday of every month at 6 p.m., with special meetings and workshops as needed.
• Planning and Zoning Commission: 2nd and 4th Tuesday of each month at 6 p.m. The commission recommends land-use and zoning policy to council and reviews updates to the city's master plan (Granicus board page).
• Boards and commissions such as the Community Services Advisory Board meet on their own schedules.

Regular meetings are held at City Hall, 530 E. Monroe Ave. in downtown Buckeye. The schedule can shift around holidays. The meeting list on this page comes from the city's Granicus portal. Even so, always go by the date and time printed on the agenda itself.

Correction (Oct. 11, 2026): the "Recent meetings" dates were often 1 to 3 days late (for example, the Oct. 6 Regular Council Meeting showed as Oct. 7). The portal's feed labels archived meetings with the day the video was posted. We now take each date from the city's own meeting list.

Which meetings matter most for Verrado

Council and P&Z are where land use, development and road decisions near Verrado get made. P&Z advises council on zoning and the city's master plan, and council casts the final vote.

Property tax levies and the annual budget go through public hearings on the council agenda. Those are the nights to watch if you care about rates.

Your rights under Arizona's open meeting law

Arizona law generally requires at least 24 hours' notice before a public body meets. The notice must include an agenda listing the specific matters to be discussed or decided, and the body can only act on what's on that agenda (A.R.S. § 38-431.02). In practice, outside a genuine emergency, if something isn't on the posted agenda, council can't vote on it that night.

How to take part

1. Read the agenda early. Agendas are posted on the city's portal ahead of the meeting. Attachments and staff reports have the real detail.
2. Watch live. The city says the public is welcome to attend in person or remotely on its YouTube channel (City of Buckeye).
3. Speak in person. Per the city's posted rules, fill out a speaker request form and hand it to the city clerk before the meeting starts. Forms are in the Council Chambers. Comments are limited to three minutes, and the total time for one topic may be capped at 15 minutes when many people sign up.
4. Know the call-to-the-public rule. Under the open meeting law, council members won't discuss or act on a topic raised in public comment that isn't on the agenda. They can respond to criticism, ask staff to look into it, or ask for it on a future agenda.
5. Email instead. If you can't make it, the city lists council@buckeyeaz.gov for comments on agenda items or anything else.
6. Check the minutes. Minutes are posted after the council approves them, so they lag the meeting by a cycle.
