Victory Fire Station 709 breaks ground
The City of Buckeye announced the groundbreaking for Victory Fire Station 709 on Oct. 6. It will be the city's eighth fire station, built at the northwest corner of Indian School Road and Acacia to serve Verrado, Victory and the surrounding area. The two-story station will be about 15,000 square feet on a 1.5-acre site, with three apparatus bays, at a cost of $17.6 million. City officials say it will improve emergency response coverage as this part of Buckeye grows. Funding comes from the general obligation bond Buckeye voters approved in 2024 for public safety facilities and infrastructure. The published project timeline runs through summer 2027. No opening date has been announced, and the city has not yet said how the station will be staffed.

New e-bike and scooter rules start Nov. 6
The Buckeye City Council approved an ordinance on Oct. 6 setting rules for electric bikes and electric scooters, with enforcement under Buckeye Municipal Code Section 12-2-10. The rules take effect Nov. 6. Key points for families:
- Age limits apply to all three classes of e-bike and to electric scooters. Check the city's page for the minimum age for each.
- Riders under 18 must wear a helmet.
- Repeat violations escalate and can lead to citations, fines and impoundment of the device.
- Parents and guardians of riders under 16 can also face penalties.
Buckeye police are pairing the rules with a "Buckeye Ride Right" education campaign that includes school outreach. If your kids ride to Verrado schools or around the trails on e-bikes, it is worth reviewing the details together before Nov. 6. The city's information page is buckeyeaz.gov/rideright.

Have a say on the Buckeye airport: meeting Oct. 14
The city is collecting public input on two planning efforts for the Buckeye Municipal Airport. The Airport Long-Range Concept looks at future scenarios for the airport itself. The Airport Specific Area Plan looks at how the land around it could develop, including land use, transportation links and economic development.

- Online: a virtual workshop for the Specific Area Plan (plan.konveio.com/buckeye-asap-virtual-workshop) and a survey on the Long-Range Concept (polco.us/n/res/vote/buckeye-az/help-shape-the-buckeye-airport).
No comment deadline has been published, so earlier input is safer.

Verrado Way and Yuma Road: still closed, still "fall 2026"
There is no new reopening date. The City of Buckeye's project page still says the Verrado Way and Yuma Road intersection is closed to traffic "until fall 2026." The project widens the intersection, adds a lane in each direction on Verrado Way from Yuma Road to Van Buren Street, and adds a new signal, right-turn slip lanes, a 10-foot shared-use path, drainage upgrades and more street lighting. It also raises the intersection about three feet to reduce flooding. Homes, schools and businesses stay reachable, but detours add time, so plan for it on school and work runs. The city's project hotline is 602-532-6250.
This continues the update in the September 30 roundup. Treat any specific reopening date as unconfirmed until the city posts one.
